The Outside World
By Nolcha Fox
Time to leave.
Put on sweater.
Pick up bag.
Pick up keys.
Open front door,
Step outside.
Pushed back
inside by
arctic wind.
Close front door.
Take off sweater.
Need a down coat.
Open closet door.
Dodge falling
boxes, beach
balls, bats.
There’s the
box of old
love letters,
I wondered
where that went.
Walk to kitchen
with love letters.
Make some coffee.
Sip and read.
I could never
leave without you.
The outside world
Can wait awhile.
